Our Adult Education and Literacy program is funded by federal and state grants and serves students 17 years of age and older who are no longer enrolled in high school. We have more than 50 classes at 25 sites located within the school districts of Parkway, Rockwood, Pattonville, Hazelwood, Clayton, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Brentwood, and Ladue. The program specializes in the areas of English as a Second Language and Adult Basic Education and Literacy.

Prospective teachers must have a four-year college degree with original transcripts supplied in a timely manner. They must also pass a thorough fingerprint and background check process as mandated by Parkway School District and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. All positions are part-time.

Once hired, teachers must obtain state certification in adult education. In order to accomplish this, all new hires will need to:

  • Successfully complete an eight (8) hour pre-certification workshop. Currently, this workshop is held virtually over two days. This is required under state guidelines.Teachers are paid to attend this training.
  • Complete state certified professional development yearly. Missouri requires adult education teachers to obtain 20 hours of professional development per year. Teachers are paid to attend professional development.
