English as a second language classes are free.

English as a Second Language


​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We offer classes for adults whose first language is not English. Students in beginning classes learn to speak, listen for understanding, read, and write English. Intermediate and advanced students have the opportunity to improve conversation, grammar, pronunciation, reading, and writing.

Other classes include:

  • U.S. Government and History
  • Citizenship

Conversation Classes and Independent Study - Fall and Spring Only

Independent study is available Monday-Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m. at Fern Ridge High (Door 6). Indpendent study is only available to registered students.

TOEFL Preparation - Fall and Spring Only

Students wishing to study for the TOEFL test may attend a preparation class every Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Fern Ridge High School (Door 6). Students must register for an ESL class before they can attend a TOEFL class. Only qualified students will be admitted. Call/text 314-415-4940 for more information.

Spring Class Schedule

Classes are ongoing; however, students must attend an orientation session before beginning classes.  See the schedule below for orientation dates and times or call/text 314-415-4940. Orientation is for two days, and students must arrive on time and plan on staying the entire time.
